2005 NFL Draft From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The 2005 NFL Draft was the procedure by which National Football League teams selected amateur college football players. It is officially known as the NFL Annual Player Selection Meeting. The draft was held April 23-24, 2005. The league also held an supplemental draft that year, which was held after the regular draft but before the regular season. The draft took place at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City, New York and was televised for the 26th consecutive year on ESPN and ESPN2. The NFL Draft had been held at Madison Square Garden since 1995, but was moved to the Javits Center in 2005.[1] The draft featured the San Francisco 49ers selecting first overall Alex Smith from the University of Utah.[2][3] Thirty-two compensatory selections were distributed amongst fourteen teams, with the Philadelphia Eagles and the St. Louis Rams garnering the most with four picks each.[4] Three of the first five picks were running backs, an NFL Draft first. [5] The 255 players chosen in the draft were composed of: Contents [hide] 1 Player selections 1.1 Round one 1.2 Round two 1.3 Round three 1.4 Round four 1.5 Round five 1.6 Round six 1.7 Round seven 2 Supplemental draft selections 3 Notable undrafted players 4 References 4.1 General 4.2 Specific 5 External links 36 Linebackers 31 Wide Receivers 29 Cornerbacks 26 Offensive Tackles 26 Runningbacks 20 Safeties 20 Defensive Ends 15 Defensive Tackles 15 Offensive Guards 14 Quarterbacks 9 Tight Ends 8 Centers 3 Kickers 2 Punters 1 Kick Returner [edit] Player selections = Compensatory selection = Pro Bowler [6] [edit] Round one Pick # NFL Team Player Position College 1 San Francisco 49ers Alex Smith Quarterback Utah 2 Miami Dolphins Ronnie Brown Runningback Auburn 3 Cleveland Browns Braylon Edwards Wide Receiver Michigan 4 Chicago Bears Cedric Benson Runningback Texas 5 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Carnell Williams Runningback Auburn 6 Tennessee Titans Adam Jones Cornerback West Virginia 7 Minnesota Vikings (from Oakland) Troy Williamson Wide Receiver South Carolina 8 Arizona Cardinals Antrel Rolle Cornerback Miami (FL) 9 Washington Redskins Carlos Rogers Cornerback Auburn 10 Detroit Lions Mike Williams Wide Receiver Southern California (USC) 11 Dallas Cowboys DeMarcus Ware Linebacker Troy 12 San Diego Chargers (from New York Giants) Shawne Merriman Linebacker Maryland 13 New Orleans Saints (from Houston) Jammal Brown Offensive Tackle Oklahoma 14 Carolina Panthers Thomas Davis Linebacker Georgia 15 Kansas City Chiefs Derrick Johnson Linebacker Texas 16 Houston Texans (from New Orleans) Travis Johnson Defensive Tackle Florida State 17 Cincinnati Bengals David Pollack Linebacker Georgia 18 Minnesota Vikings Erasmus James Defensive End Wisconsin 19 St. Louis Rams Alex Barron Offensive Tackle Florida State 20 Dallas Cowboys (from Buffalo)[7] Marcus Spears Defensive End LSU 21 Jacksonville Jaguars Matt Jones Wide Receiver Arkansas 22 Baltimore Ravens Mark Clayton Wide Receiver Oklahoma 23 Oakland Raiders (from Seattle) Fabian Washington Cornerback Nebraska 24 Green Bay Packers Aaron Rodgers Quarterback California 25 Washington Redskins (from Denver) Jason Campbell Quarterback Auburn 26 Seattle Seahawks (from New York Jets through Oakland) Chris Spencer Center Mississippi 27 Atlanta Falcons Roddy White Wide Receiver UAB 28 San Diego Chargers Luis Castillo Defensive Tackle Northwestern 29 Indianapolis Colts Marlin Jackson Cornerback Michigan 30 Pittsburgh Steelers Heath Miller Tight End Virginia 31 Philadelphia Eagles Mike Patterson Defensive Tackle Southern California 32 New England Patriots Logan Mankins Offensive Guard Fresno State [edit] Round two Pick # NFL Team Player Position College 33 San Francisco 49ers David Baas Center Michigan 34 Cleveland Browns Brodney Pool Safety Oklahoma 35 Philadelphia Eagles (from Miami) Reggie Brown Wide Receiver Georgia 36 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Barrett Ruud Linebacker Nebraska 37 Detroit Lions (from Tennessee) Shaun Cody Defensive Tackle Southern California 38 Oakland Raiders Stanford Routt Cornerback Houston 39 Chicago Bears Mark Bradley Wide Receiver Oklahoma 40 New Orleans Saints (from Washington) Josh Bullocks Safety Nebraska 41 Tennessee Titans (from Detroit) Michael Roos Offensive Tackle Eastern Washington 42 Dallas Cowboys Kevin Burnett Linebacker Tennessee 43 New York Giants Corey Webster Cornerback LSU 44 Arizona Cardinals J.J.
