Sarah invites Scotty Wandell, a witness in one of Kevin's cases, to the party just to spite him. Tommy gets Justin a new job as a bellhop but he takes drugs and drinks on the job, so the two brothers come to blows. Kevin is forced to join his mother at a golf outing honoring their father instead of going on a date with Scotty, whom he later sees with another guy. Nora suspects that Saul has feelings for Holly. Kitty feels left out of the family because Nora had hung up a family picture that she's not in. 5 "Date Night" David Marshall Grant & Molly Newman Allison Liddi-Brown October 22, 2006 105 Kitty arranges a disastrous double date with Jonathan, Warren and the talk show's new intern, Amber, who Kitty suspects Warren slept with. Jonathan tries to help Sarah, Saul and Tommy with their financial crisis at the company. Kevin and Scotty go out on a date and everything goes well up until Scotty kisses Kevin. Nora goes on her first date in forty years with her repairman, David (special guest star Treat Williams). Justin helps Sarah with her fears about giving Paige her insulin shots. Toye October 29, 2006 106 Sarah has to confront Nora with the real situation at Ojai Foods. Meanwhile, Nora insists that the family attend the annual fund raiser for a children's hospital. The siblings' plans go awry when Kevin accidentally insults Scotty, who is catering at the fund raiser and Kitty asks Warren to come along only to find out that he's no longer available. Tommy finds out he's sterile, all the while trying to conceive with Julia. Several scandals also happen that evening that put Nora to shame. 7 "Northern Exposure" David Marshall Grant & Molly Newman Lawrence Trilling November 5, 2006 107 In order to save the company, the family has to sell the cottage in Ojai, where they spent their summers growing up. Nora wants the family to have one last get-together, but they disagree. Meanwhile, each of them invites their significant other in hope that they will be alone. make the passions run high. 8 "Mistakes Were Made, Part 1" Jon Robin Baitz & Craig Wright Michael Lange November 12, 2006 108 Justin receives a letter from the U.S. Army stating that he must return for active duty. Fearing for his life, Justin wants to flee to Mexico against Kevin's advice. Sarah has trouble making her stepson Gabe feel more like a part of her family. Nora sleeps at David’s house shocked that she's let it get that far. Sarah and Saul try to crack the password for William’s account and inquire from Holly information about her daughter, Rebecca. Upon cracking the password, Sarah gives Saul an ultimatum. Kevin tries his hardest to win Scotty back, but he breaks up with him. The family recalls September 11, 2001, Kitty coming back home and Justin’s decision to enlist. 9 "Mistakes Were Made, Part 2" Marc Guggenheim & Greg Berlanti Ken Olin November 19, 2006 109 Kitty puts herself in an awkward position when she asks Senator Robert McCallister (special guest star Rob Lowe) for a favor in return for a non-confrontational interview over his personal life. The family gathers at the hospital after finding out that Justin has attempted suicide by drug overdose. Sarah, Tommy and Kevin take a road trip to Nevada to find their father’s vast and lucrative land. Julia and Tommy announce to the family that she's pregnant. 10 "Light the Lights" Peter Calloway & Cliff Olin Frederick E.O. Toye December 10, 2006 110 Paige feels that she needs to connect with her Jewish self, so the family plans to celebrate both Christmas and Hanukkah. Kevin and Justin go to court, demanding that the contract Justin has with the Army be annulled. Kitty is offered a job at the TV station without Warren. Sarah, Tommy and Saul try to deceive Holly upon finding out that William had left her 10 million dollars. Nora stops by Holly's house. 11 "Family Day" David Marshall Grant & Molly Newman David Petrarca January 7, 2007 111 It seems that the entire Walker family is at odds: Kevin argues with Kitty when she tells him that she's seriously considering the senator's offer to join his communication staff, because the senator doesn't support gay marriage. Sarah fights with Joe when he decides to ignore Gabe's drinking problem. And Nora demands a job at Ojai Foods when she learns that Holly also works there, leading to a conflict between her and her son Tommy. The arguing escalates when the whole family is invited to Justin's rehab center in order to show support for him. 12 "Sexual Politics" Monica Breen & Alison Schapker Sandy Smolan January 14, 2007 112 Kevin considers a relationship with a soap opera star (guest star Jason Lewis) who is confused about his sexuality. Kitty hires a matchmaker when she finds out that everyone on McCallister's staff is thinking that the two of them are dating. Nora's butting in gets her involved and the matchmaker sets her up too. But both of them get their share of surprises while attending their dates. Sarah gets insecure when she sees Joe hanging out with a mom of Paige's friend. Julia has a higher sex drive than usual due to her pregnancy and Tommy has trouble keeping up with her. 13 "Something Ida This Way Comes" David Marshall Grant & Sherri Cooper-Landsman Michael Lange January 21, 2007 113 The siblings are planning a surprise party for Nora's 60th birthday. The plans go awry when Sarah falls ill and Tommy learns that they can't have any alcohol at the party, due to Justin's rehab rules. With Kitty distracting Nora, the burden of planning the party falls onto Kevin. In the midst of all the mess, Saul and Nora's overbearing mother Ida (special guest star Marion Ross) comes in earlier and ruins the surprise. 14 "Valentine’s Day Massacre" Peter Calloway & Cliff Olin Michael Schultz February 11, 2007 114 In the evening of Valentine's Day the entire Walker family runs amok: Kevin gets back together with Scotty, Justin with Tyler and Kitty finally gives in to her attraction for Senator McCallister. In addition to that, Nora goes out with her best girlfriend and they end up arrested for smoking marijuana. Tommy tries to overrule Sarah's decision about the winery by voting with Holly. 15 "Love is Difficult" Jon Robin Baitz & Molly Newman Michael Lange February 18, 2007 115 Sarah and Joe enter couples' counseling. Kevin learns that Chad broke up with Michelle and that he has a history of dating members of both sexes. Tommy wants Sarah to buy his shares of Ojai Foods so that he may focus on the wine business with Holly. McCallister's staff members conduct a poll about Kitty. Julia is revealed to be carrying twins. Nora starts to express herself artistically through writing. Tommy meets Holly's daughter Rebecca. 16 "The Other Walker" Monica Breen & Alison Schapker Gloria Muzio March 4, 2007 116 Saul reveals to Nora that William and Holly had a daughter, Rebecca, even though he previously agreed with Sarah, Tommy and Kevin that he won't say anything. The news is just too much for the Walker family: Nora becomes furious with Sarah, and so does Kitty. Kevin is angry at Saul and confronts him for betraying them all. Justin and Tyler decide to break up. Sarah tells Rebecca everything, leading to her confronting Holly and, eventually, Holly confronting Sarah and Saul. Justin pays Rebecca a visit. 17 "All in the Family" Sherri Cooper-Landsman & David Marshall Grant David Paymer April 1, 2007 117 Nora invites Holly and William's daughter Rebecca for dinner to welcome her to the family. The other family members are not as supportive: Kitty doesn't show up, Sarah is giving Rebecca the cold shoulder and Kevin tries to pull Rebecca's hair in order to get her DNA, so that he can be sure that she's really William's daughter. Meanwhile, Kitty meets Robert's children and has a very unpleasant situation and Kevin meets with Donald, Chad's manager. 18 "Three Parties" Jon Robin Baitz & Marc Guggenheim Sandy Smolan April 8, 2007 118 Kitty has to go to Robert's hometown to interview his old friends. Sarah joins her, and they both get invited to a teenage party. Meanwhile, Nora wants to get to know her writing professor better so the two of them go out for a picnic together and he invites her to a party at his house. Rebecca learns that she and Justin had a mutual childhood friend and they go to his house to a party, where things get out of control. Chad decides to come out which effects
negatively to his and Kevin's relationship. 19 "Game Night" Molly Newman (teleplay) Peter Calloway & Cliff Olin (story) Matt Shakman April 15, 2007 119 Kitty sets Kevin up on a date without telling him that it's with the republican Senator's gay brother, Jason. Kevin ruins the date by going on a rant against the Senator. Nora and Kitty arrange game night with another family with whom they have had a competitive relationship since the siblings' childhoods. That very night, instead of showing unity, they can't stop fighting: Kevin learns what Kitty did, while Kitty is angry at Sarah for her sudden acceptance of Rebecca, who she also invited. The morning after Rebecca gets a guitar lesson from Joe, leading to shocking events. Guest stars include Jenna Elfman and Susan Sullivan, who appeared together in the series Dharma & Greg. 20 "Bad News" Monica Breen & Alison Schapker Jason Moore April 29, 2007 120 A horrified Rebecca tells Justin in confidence that Joe made a pass at her. Professor August blackmails Nora with a failing grade into going out with her. Kitty attempts to help McCallister relax but then must help him comfort staff workers after a helicopter crash kills one of his campaign speechwriters. Holly reveals to Sarah shocking news about the jeopardy of her marriage. 21 "Grapes of Wrath" Sherri Cooper-Landsman & David Marshall Grant Michael Morris May 6, 2007 121 Tommy and Holly throw a party for family and friends in honor of the opening of their winery. Joe decides to come with Sarah and everyone's giving him the cold shoulder. Kitty mixes wine with some pills from Kevin's bag that she mistook for aspirin and inadvertedly tells Kevin that she proposed to Robert. Kevin gets drunk later and lets it slip in front of the entire family. Sarah learns about the agreement between Joe and Justin and gets even angrier. Nora decides to give Mark another chance and takes him with her to the party but he blows it by kissing Holly. Nora and Holly have a fight that results in ways they had not expected. Julia goes into labor. 22 "Favorite Son" Benjamin Kruger & Daniel Silk Gloria Muzio May 13, 2007 122 Julia gives birth to the twins prematurely, and she and Tommy are forced to make a difficult decision when their son faces life-threatening complications. Kevin reluctantly helps Kitty deal with a blackmailer who is threatening to reveal damaging information about Senator McCallister to the press. Sarah and Joe tell their children that Joe is moving out. Kitty and McCallister get engaged. 23 "Matriarchy" Greg Berlanti & Jon Robin Baitz Ken Olin May 20, 2007 123 Nora is planning an engagement party for Kitty, who is having difficulties telling her that she is moving in with Robert. Justin makes plans to say goodbye to everyone individually. At the party, Kevin and Robert's brother Jason kiss, while Rebecca reveals the truth about her departure from Chicago and admits to Justin she willingly kissed Joe. Nora invites Saul's old friend to the party, which he's not very comfortable with. Justin goes off to war and Nora and Kitty see him off at the airport. Kevin has to make a huge compromise in order to salvage his relationship with Jason. Sarah and Joe have sex and she mistakes it for him wanting to move back in. What he really wants is a divorce. Tommy doesn't have enough time for Sarah because he's struggling with the loss of his son, arguing with Julia and making the wine business work. Saul questions his decisions in life when his old friend Milo comes to visit. Nora is worried to death because she hasn't heard from Justin in over three weeks and angry at Kitty for not wanting to use her influence on Robert in order to make sure that he's alright. Kitty is jealous of Rebecca, who is the only one who has been living at the house with Nora the whole summer and being there for her. Nora and Holly visit William's grave. 25 "An American Family" David Marshall Grant & Molly Newman Gloria Muzio October 7, 2007 202 While Kevin, Kitty and Nora take a road trip to pick up Justin from a hospital in San Diego, they hear a radio programme, in which the host slanders the Walker family. Kitty calls the radio and winds up making things worse. Sarah learns that Joe is back together with his first wife. Rebecca comes clean to Sarah about the kiss. Holly and Rebecca work through their conflict. Tommy is still fighting with Julia, while Justin has difficulties dealing with the fact that he's dependant of others. 26 "History Repeating" Jon Robin Baitz & Jennifer Cecil Matt Shakman October 14, 2007 203 Scotty appears again, asking Kevin to represent him in a DUI case. It's discovered that he's in chef school and about to become a sous chef in a famous LA restaurant. Meanwhile, Nora wants Rebecca to convince Justin to use pain medications. Kitty confronts Robert's ex-wife Courtney, while Julia takes her daughter and goes to her parents for a while, feeling that she needs some time away from Tommy. 27 "States of Union" Sherri Cooper-Landsman & Liz Tigelaar Michael Schultz October 21, 2007 204 Kitty and Sarah arrange a getaway to the Ojai spa so that they can forget their problems: Nora, of course, butts in and tags along. Meanwhile, Scotty spots Saul at a gay event and tells Kevin about it, who then corners Saul. And Tommy's loneliness crosses the line when he opens up to his office manager, Lena. The two sleep together and Holly confronts him on it. Rebecca worries that Justin's fast recovery is the result of a medication overdose. 28 "Domestic Issues" Peter Calloway & Cliff Olin Ken Olin October 28, 2007 205 Kevin represents Sarah in the custody battle with Joe, who is demanding full custody over Paige and Cooper. Kitty discovers she is pregnant, but Robert doesn't react the way that she would like. Tommy's affair with Lena goes on, while Justin is still overdosing on pain medications. Joe gets full custody of the children, on Halloween, no less. 29 "Two Places" Monica Owusu-Breen & Alison Schapker Gloria Muzio November 4, 2007 206 Kitty brings in an expert, Isaac Marshall (guest star Danny Glover) to advise Robert on his campaign, not knowing that the two had disagreements in the past. Meanwhile, Nora prepares an emergency wedding at the house, which gets canceled upon Kitty's miscarriage. Meanwhile, Paige's acting out forces Joe to change the custody arrangement; he and Sarah agree on joined custody. Kevin learns that Scotty has nowhere to live and invites him to stay at his place. Rebecca figures out that Justin is using again and moves back in with Holly. 30 "36 Hours" Molly Newman & David Marshall Grant David Paymer November 11, 2007 207 At Holly's urging, Rebecca tells the family that Justin is doing drugs again so they decide to hold an
intervention. They agree to stay the night and take care of him. Saul keeps fighting with Kevin about his sexuality, but eventually admits to Nora that he was once in love with a man. Kevin confronts Tommy about his affair with Lena. Meanwhile, Robert spends a day with his daughter. 31 "Something New" Jennifer Cecil & Sherri Cooper-Landsman Michael Owen Morris November 25, 2007 208 Kitty, Sarah and Rebecca go out looking for bridesmaids' dresses. Kitty finds a perfect wedding dress for herself, but she had already promised Nora that she would wear her old wedding dress. Meanwhile, Kevin sleeps with Scotty and decides to break up with Jason in order to give his relationship with Scotty another chance. Julia comes back with Elzabeth and Tommy is feeling guilty about his affair with Lena, who, meanwhile, starts dating Justin. Sarah goes out for a dinner with a charming business consultant. Nora gets in touch with her old boyfriend (guest star Chevy Chase) and the two catch up. When Kitty feels neglected Robert arranges their own private dance - with no other than Lyle Lovett. 32 "Holy Matrimony" Mark B. Perry and Monica Owusu-Breen & Alison Schapker Robert Lieberman December 2, 2007 209 On Kitty and Robert's wedding day, a political scandal very damaging for Robert's career threatens to be exposed. Kitty gets a call from Isaac who promises to take care of it. At the wedding, Justin shows up with Lena, much to Tommy's surprise. Rebecca tells Justin about the affair between Tommy and Lena. Everyone from McCallister's family is giving Kevin the cold shoulder for dumping Jason, while Scotty is offended because Kevin isn't telling anyone that the two are a couple again. Isaac and Nora start bonding. Holly gets a visit from an old friend. 33 "The Feast of the Epiphany" David Marshall Grant & Jason Wilborn Laura Innes January 13, 2008 210 Nora invites Isaac to dinner with the entire family, who she used as a buffer because she was terrified of having a real date with him. At the dinner, the truth of Tommy's affair comes to light, but is overshadowed by Julia's shocking confession. Isaac and Kitty do everything they can to salvage Robert's campaign. Kevin got an e-mail from Jason saying he'll be back in town soon and is afraid to tell Scotty. Sarah and Graham start flirting more intensely. Justin is trying to hide his ongoing relationship with Lena. David comes to dinner with Rebecca and Holly, which starts raising some questions about their past. 34 "The Missionary Imposition" Daniel Silk & Brian Studler Michael Morris February 10, 2008 211 When Jason comes back from Malaysia and visits Kevin at home, Scotty intentionally shows up and makes matters worse. Tommy and Julia work hard on their marriage, but they don't resolve anything. Lena quits her job and breaks up with Justin. Sarah and Graham have a very lucrative business meeting with a wealthy investor. Nora and Isaac go out on a date. 35 "Compromises" Cliff Olin & Peter Calloway David Paymer February 17, 2008 212 When Sarah gets her divorce papers (but is reluctant to sign them) and Scotty and his friends accuse Kevin of being too uptight, the two siblings go to a gay bar and try to have some fun. Meanwhile, Robert and Jason come to blows when Jason finds out that Isaac was the one who outed him. Kitty catches a cold and gets to spend some time with Robert's children. Rebecca takes interest in photography and asks David for help. 36 "Separation Anxiety" David Marshall Grant & Molly Newman Gloria Muzio April 20, 2008 213 When Isaac asks Nora to come with him to Washington D.C. and she agrees, the siblings try their best to keep her at home. Sarah tells Saul to pass on a business offer because of her personal relationship with Graham. After Robert gave up the presidential race to his opponent, he and Kitty try harder than ever to start a family. Rebecca takes a DNA test in order to discover the identity of her father. 37 "Double Negative" Josh Reims & Liz Tigelaar Michael Schultz April 27, 2008 214 In the midst of getting ready for a family charity event, Rebecca reveals that David is her real father and decides to call him on it. She doesn't, however, tell Holly or the Walkers. David decides to go away, leaving Holly heartbroken. Not taking Sarah's advice on passing Graham's business deal, Saul puts the future of the company in jeopardy. While trying to help Scotty out financially, Kevin goes a bit too far. Robert gets an offer for the vice president spot, but denies it. Nora makes plans about the future. 38 "Moral Hazard" Sherri Cooper-Landsman & Jason Wilborn Michael Morris May 4, 2008[1] 215 Sarah decides to take full responsibility for what happened to Ojai Foods. Nora pushes her into getting in a deal with Walker Landing. Holly drafts a proposal that she benefits from and presents it as the company's only choice. Justin admits that he had feelings for Rebecca briefly, and she finally tells him the truth about her father. Holly and Rebecca have one final fallout. Saul finally admits to Kevin that he's gay. Kevin and Scotty make a decision that will affect the rest of their lives. 39 "Prior Commitments" Greg Berlanti & Monica Owusu-Breen & Alison Schapker Ken Olin May 11, 2008[1] 216 While getting ready for the wedding, Kevin finds out that Scotty's parents won't be attending it, so he goes on a road trip with Tommy and Justin to try and convince them to come. The whole family learns that Rebecca is not a Walker, but still decide to include her. Saul inadvertently comes out to the entire family. Sarah obsesses over the fact that their father had to have kept another child from them, and Kevin's suppressed memory comes to light. Kitty and Robert decide to adopt a child. Justin and Rebecca are trying to cope with the fact that they have feelings for each other. Kevin and Scotty commit to spending the rest of their lives together. Meanwhile, Kevin and Sarah continue pursuing Ryan, against Nora's wishes. Tommy plans to fire Kevin as the firm's attorney, a decision Sarah strongly disagrees with. Paige and Cooper blackmail Justin into doing them little favors because they found out about him and Rebecca. Kitty is angry with Sarah when she discovers that her recommendation letter was really written by Nora. A new-appointed C.E.O., Holly is giving Sarah a hard time at work. 41 "Book Burning" Sherri Cooper & Jennifer Levin Laura Innes October 5 , 2008 302 Kitty tries to hide from her family and Robert that she wrote a book during the campaign. The entire family, especially Nora, finds the contents of the book extremely offensive. The tension culminates at the dinner that Kitty and Robert were throwing for their adoption agent. Meanwhile, Justin and Rebecca are uncomfortable with each other when it comes to sex. Holly decides to give Rebecca the two million dollars from her trust fund, and Rebecca suspects that she has an ulterior motive. Kitty and Nora have a heart to heart. Holly does a little investigation of her own regarding Ryan. 42 "Tug of War" Josh Reims & Liz Tigelaar Gloria Muzio October 12 , 2008 303 Kevin is forced to make a professional decision that goes against his beliefs and could risk alienating Scotty. Difficult times at Ojai Foods cause both Tommy and Holly as well as Sarah and Saul to make drastic decisions. Justin can't bring himself to talk to Rebecca about his war experiences. 43 "Everything Must Go" Nancy Won & Michael Foley Michael Schultz October 19 , 2008 304 Nora organizes a garage sale in order to collect the money she needs to start her own charity. Justin worries that the real reason for the sale is that she wants to get rid of everything that belonged to William. Julia pushes Sarah and Tommy into reconciliation. Robert is giving Kitty a hard time about her decision to quit. Holly investigates the past of Ryan Lafferty. Robert has an unusual proposal for Kevin. Holly and Rebecca try to rebuild their relationship. 44 "You Get What You Need" David Marshall Grant & Cliff Olin Chad Lowe October 26 , 2008 305 When Scotty's parents come to town, Kevin has trouble fitting them into his schedule, which leads to a fight with Scotty. Sarah learns that finding a job that she will be able to juggle with raising her two children is harder than she thought. Nora tries her hardest to get her new charity going. An unexpected twist at work makes Kevin accept Robert's offer, much to his and Kitty's surprise. Tommy and Saul patch things up. Justin and Rebecca trick Nora and Holly into having a discussion about Ryan. 45 "Bakersfield" Molly Newman & Peter Calloway Gloria Muzio November 2 , 2008 306 Nora and Kitty go to Bakersfield, where they meet with George Lafferty, but it doesn't go as planned.
