(born February 13, 1997).[7] The next year, she gave birth to daughter Paris-Michael Katherine Jackson (born April 3, 1998).[8] [edit] Divorce The couple divorced on October 8, 1999, with Rowe giving full custody rights of the children to Jackson. Rowe received an $8-million settlement, and a house in Beverly Hills, California.[9] Court documents indicated she had signed a prenuptial agreement and therefore could not obtain an equal division of community property under California law.[10] In 2001, Rowe went to a private judge to have her parental rights for the two children terminated.[9] In 2004, after the Jackson was charged with 10 counts of child abuse, she went to court to have the decision reversed.[11] According to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency Rowe, who is Jewish, sought the reversal in part because she feared the nanny and some of Jackson's siblings were exposing the children to teachings of the Nation of Islam.[12] 2005 court documents noted that “Because she is Jewish, Deborah feared the children might be mistreated if Michael continued the association.”[13] On the stand, in the 2005 People v. Jackson case, she explained that she had been allowed limited visits to her children, for eight hours every 45 days.[14] In 2005, Rowe sold her Beverly Hills house for $1.3 million, and bought a ranch in Palmdale, California.[15] In 2006, she sued Jackson for one immediate payment of $195,000 and one payment of $50,000 to pursue a child custody case .[11] Jackson was ordered to pay her $60,000 in legal fees.[16] In a February 2008 interview with journalist Annette Witheridge, published in the Daily Mail, Rowe said she saw Jackson and the children "all the time", as they lived only a three-hour drive away. The article said that Rowe is adopted, that the veils used by the children were her idea, that she was artificially inseminated, and that she and Jackson never lived as husband and wife. Rowe was quoted as saying: "I had so many problems when I was pregnant with Paris. After that I couldn't have any more children."[17][18] [edit] After Jackson's death Following Jackson's death on June 25, 2009, several news media reported TMZ's claims that Rowe was not the biological mother of the children, but a surrogate mother.[19][20] This was later denied by Rowe's lawyer, Marta Almli.[21][22] It was reported by TMZ and US Weekly,[23][24] who both claimed to have received the information through multiple insiders, that Jackson's dermatologist, Dr. Arnold Klein of Los Angeles, is the biological father of the two children.[23] Klein's attorney, Richard Charnley, said, "Because of patient confidentiality, Dr. Klein will make no statement on any reports or allegations."[22] During the second week of July, The New York Post, a tabloid based out of New York, reported that they had received notification from "a family source" stating that Debbie Rowe had agreed to not enter into a fight for custody of the children of Michael Jackson for $4,000,000[25][26]; and, as a subsequent de facto result, she would effectively give up her parental rights. Rowe's attorney released a statement afterward refuting the claims of the New York Post and demanding the immediate retraction of the story[27][28] and accused the New York Post of completely fabricating the story[29]. According to CNN[30] and other media outlets, The New York Post refused to retract their story or identify their source after multiple requests.
