Jamaal Al-Din's Hoops 227 would like to highlight James Naismith who was a physical education instructor from Canada and invented basketball, a game which is prominant here in the United States and overseas at the professional and amateur levels. The game of basketball was invented in 1891. James Naismith started the Kansas University basketball program.
The first basketball game played:
The basketball history story: On December 21, 1891 at where else, the YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts. It reportedly consisted of a class of 20 year olds who were restless and unruly during the winter time when they weren't allowed to go outside to play baseball. The head of physical education at the YMCA, Dr. Luther Gulick, who ran the YMCA physical education program at the time, challeged his fellow employee, Dr. James Naismith, to invent something athletic of an event/game for the youth/kids to play indoors. Dr. James Naismith was given to weeks to work his mastery (well..."Basketball Mastery")! Naismith invented the game of basketball, initially as a game with just 13 rules (times have changed in hoops)! Two peach baskets were hung at exacly 10 feet and everything else is well...basketball history!
The definition of basketball at our everything basketball website, Jamaal Al-Din's Hoops 227:
Basketball is an invigorating sport where two teams consisting of 5 players each attempt to score points on their opponent by throwing a ball through a basketball.
Basketball is sport played both outdoors and indoors. It's played on a basketball court with two teams usually consisting of five players each. The teams score points by systematically passing the ball from teammate to teammate, strategically in efforts of getting high percentage opportunities at scoring points by making baskets. The team with teh most points at the end of the game wins. The ball is advanced up the court by dribbling (bouncing), as well as passing amongst teammates. Abrupt physical contact is considered a foul and is not permitted. There are also limitations and restrictions on how the ball can be handled.
Basketball has developed and now includes techniques of shooting, dribbling and passing, as well as players' positions, and offensive and defensive positions. Numerous variations of basketball have developed for casual play. Basketball is also a popular spectator sport.
Now basketball has evolved to overseas including the United States, Canada, Italy, France, Africa, Europe, Asia, China, Japan, Australia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Spain, Dominican Republic, and essentially all over the world. Basketball has become a global phenomenon with the development of non-profit organizations and charities! The NBA has even included games abroad with possible aspirations of going global with their operations.
